5 things you need to be doing with coconut oil
As part of our A-Veganuary series, this month we’re heroing the brilliant coconut. Not only does it taste great, it can solve most of life’s emergencies. Run out of moisturiser? No problem. Is your hair frizzier than Monica’s from Friends in the Bahamas? No problem. Skin feeling dry and lifeless after last night’s party? No problem. Coconut Oil is your new best friend, trust us.
Hydrate yo hair
Want to whip your hair like Willow? Solve your straw-like winter strands with this easy upgrade to your pre shower routine. Before you start shampooing, get a small amount of coconut oil and gently rub it between your palms until it starts to melt. Massage it into your scalp and ends of your hair, and brush it through, then leave it in for up to an hour. Follow this with your usual routine (shower karaoke optional) and it won’t be just your dance moves shining on the dance floor!
Put your best face forward
Hair looking fly, now it’s time to make your skin look as good. This coconut oil and honey face mask will leave you selfie ready in a flash. To get the Hollywood glow, mix equal parts of the coconut oil and honey together and apply directly to your face. Let it sit for ten minutes, put your feet up and give yourself so much needed R&R. Once you feel suitably relaxed wash off with warm water. Your skin will be Fresh, smooth, fabulous skin! And voila!
Return to radiance – body
When was the last time your legs saw the light of day? We definitely neglect our skin during the winter months – so give them a coco-loco treat! Make sure you give your skin a head start on the months to come by applying coconut oil to your body before you go to sleep. The oil helps to draw out the impurities from the surface of your skin, and will leave it soft to the touch. Trust us when we say skincare was never so easy or so dam smoooooth.
Cooking cracked
Not only is coconut oil amazing for your body, it’s also a great alternative to vegetable oil whether you’re stir-frying, sautéing, or looking for something to spread on your toast. For the fastest way to drool worthy dishes, why not add a tablespoon of coconut oil when you’re making a stir-fry for a silky texture and nutty flavour? Or our personal favourite, stir a couple of teaspoons into your sweet potato soup – for the sexiest soup in town.
