All Bar One top picks by our nutritionist, Sarah Jackson
Our brand new Autumn menu has some delicious new dishes, with so many to choose from we thought we would ask our nutritionist, Sarah to find out what her top picks are!
First of all, let’s find out a little bit about her…
1. What does your job include in a nutshell?
I work with food development managers/chefs to support them with nutritionally balanced meals, ensuring that products and menus meet Government policies and regulations… I also get to try a lot of tasty food!
2. What’s your nutrition mission?
I believe that life is about balance so I would never tell anyone to not have that cocktail or dessert they have been dreaming of all day. However, I do think it is important to make sure that healthy options are available to guests when they are eating out and by working with All Bar One I think we are on our way to having some great options available.
3. What is your favourite dish off our brunch menu?
I am a HUGE fan of brunch, it is probably my favourite time to eat out! Weekend is my only time to ‘brunch’ so after looking forward to it all week when it comes to Saturday I want to really enjoy it. I am a little avocado obsessed so I opt for the sour dough with smashed avocado and feta but for the days where I may be all avo’d out I love the protein egg pot, I did a blog on this here. You may spot on that blog that I also love the pancakes and on a few occasions, I have been known to order three brunch dishes between two purely because I couldn’t decide what I wanted!
4. What are your top picks from our new menu?
I have been lucky enough to try quite a few of the new dishes and I don’t think I am going to be able to narrow this down but here it goes…
The Vegan Rainbow Wrap is just packed with flavour with avocado, beetroot hummus, spiralised carrots and roasted red peppers it is super tasty. This dish also counts towards your 5 a day, containing around 2 portions of vegetables, team it with the quinoa soup as a side and I don’t think you will be disappointed!
Chicken, green and grains, what more could you want! Although this may not be the lowest calorie dish on the menu it is has enough positive aspects to shout about… life isn’t always about counting calories after all! It not only contains one of your 5 a day but it also contains soy beans which are a good source of protein, B vitamins and minerals. You can choose to have this without chicken but for additional protein I personally choose with! With a generous portion of quinoa and grains it is my favourite go to, it is packed with complex carbohydrates and meets the high protein claim containing over 72 grams.
If you are a fan of coconuts then the coconut and prawn salad is the one for you… containing a portion of veggies and as well as being a good source of protein it is a perfect lunch option. Who doesn’t love diced coconut and coconut yogurt packed into one dish?!
5. What about dessert, do you have a sweet tooth?
Most definitely! I try to save my sweet tooth for dining out occasions (otherwise I don’t think I would have many teeth left!) An oldie but goodie is the Chocolate, Mascapone & Orange flavour Mousse Cake, it doesn’t over face you if you just want something sweet to finish your meal and it is only 250 calories for anyone counting the calories. However, for the days I just want to indulge I love the Bourbon Pecan Pie and dare I say it… the churros but I always have eyes bigger than my belly and end up sharing them.
